National Museum of the American Indian - Sat 2/24 @ 11am

Dear Culture Club
I hope you can join us on Saturday February 24 to visit the Museum of the American Indian.  “With the opening of the “Americans” the Museum of the American Indian has mounted an exhibition that will transform how we think of the museum and our society’s pervasive appropriation of American Indian imagery to sell everything from sports teams to motorcycles.  The exhibition is visually stunning and the entrance hall is filled with sofas and touch screen tables.  The curators say they don’t want to erase Native American imagery from American culture.  They do want people to understand how it got there, and why the larger American culture got so much of it wrong.”
This sounds very interesting, doesn’t it.

My idea is that we can meet at 11 am, go upstairs to see the short introductory movie and then spend some time going through this exhibit.  Then at a specified time, we will meet in the cafe, which if you have never been there, it is wonderful - indigenous Native American food and drinks.  At lunch we can talk about the exhibit.

Pleased send me your rsvp by February 17.
