As one of the largest, all-volunteer chapters outside of California, the Washington, D.C. alumni club brings together the estimated 10,000 Cal Bears that reside in the National Capital Region, which encompasses the D.C. metropolitan area of southern Maryland & northern Virginia.

With nearly 300 active members, the club organizes or participates in over 100 events a year, which seek to connect our alumni with opportunities related to networking (both social & career), lifelong learning, community service, professional development, athletics, & student outreach. The Annual Reception is the premier annual event of the Cal Alumni Club of Washington, D.C. This important event helps raise much-needed funding to support our expansive club operations and to support student scholarships at UC Berkeley. In addition we bring together newly admitted students to Cal from our area every summer for our annual picnic & welcome party.

Woodrow Wilson House in Washington, DC

    January 2026 Culture Club

Guided tour of Woodrow Wilson House

Join with other Culture Club members to tour the historic Woodrow Wilson House, the Kalorama home in which President and Mrs. Wilson lived after leaving the White House in 1921. The home contains more than eight thousand artifacts, including presidential
    memorabilia.

President Wilson’s legacy is complex. He championed many progressive ideas, creating the Federal Reserve and the Federal Trade Commission, and he was awarded the 1919 Nobel Peace Prize for his powerful advocacy that led to the establishment of the League of Nations. He transformed American foreign policy away from isolationism towards international engagement. He supported collective bargaining, child labor laws, and women’s suffrage, yet he also expanded segregation and racially discriminatory workplace rules within the federal government, significantly reversing previous gains in racial equity.

To help us understand all this, Cal Berkeley alumnus and Cal DC Culture Club member Bob Enholm will provide his insights about President Wilson and highlight significant items in the Wilson House collection of artifacts. Bob served four years as Executive Director of Wilson House before relocating, in 2017, to Geneva Switzerland to oversee restoration of the “Celestial Sphere” – a massive sculpture donated to the League of Nations in honor of Woodrow Wilson’s vision of a peaceful world.
